Lo1 - Storyboards

1.
this is the opening scene of the documentary which will be 10 seconds long. this is going to be an establishing shot which will include a time lapse of the sunset over the sheffield city center, it will be shot from south street to capture the skyline and the sun set, this is the opening scene as it shows the audience where the documentary is going to be set.
when editing this clip i am going to add a typewriter sound effect layered over the top of a quiet, slow and dramatic beat, as individual letters are going to appear spelling out 'single use sheffield'

2
This clip is going to last around 3-5 seconds, it is going to be a short clip showing overflowing bins around sheffield. we are going to film this clip by using different bins around the sheffield city center. the bins are going to be captured through wide shots in order to show the whole bin and the overflowing rubbish, the wide show will create a dramatic effect as the attention of the viewer will be focused on the bins. There will be dialogue included over the top of this scene depicting facts and statistics about sheffield and its plastic waste, by adding this to the clips of the overflowing rubbish it will create a dramatic effect and make the visuals match the audio.

3
this clip is also going to last around 3-5 seconds and is part of the jump cut seires that capture different issues surrounding plastic waste in sheffield. this shot will capture all of the rubbish / plastic that has been thrown into a river, this clip will be filmed at the porter brook river as that is a river that runs through sheffield and a lot of people litter in. this shot is going to be a wide shot that captures the river and the rubbish that has been littered into it, the wide shot creates a more dramatic and serious effect as it will capture more the whole width of the river and all of the rubbish content that has been littered into it. when editing this clip and adding sound to it there will be a voice over added, the voice over will be relaying facts and statistics about sheffield and plastic waste, the voice over adds further emphasis on the dramatic effect created by the image and wide shot.

4.
This clip sill also be part of the jump cut series demonstrating the problems faced in Sheffield surrounding plastic.
The shot will have a duration of 3-5 seconds, and will feature single use plastic bottles and packaging not responsibly designed by huge supermarket giants.
We want to demonstrate that up to 50% of all plastic is used in packaging of food and other produce and even food that is designed to be sold loosely e.g tomatoes and peppers is sold in useless single use plastic.
The shot will consist of many different single use plastic all cut to one another quickly at a fast paced tempo to upkeep with the idea of a jump cut beginning

5.
This scene will last 3-5 seconds, it will feature someone throwing litter out their car and this will be done at a close up shot. This shot will mirror the voice over so that it creates more of an effect on the audience. The voiceover will be of the same person throughout the documentary so that the audience get familiarised with the narrator, thus creating a
likeability which could potentially further persuade audiences to give up their plastic habits. The video of the litter being spilt out the car will be in slow motion and this will add contrast to the rest of the video which is presented in its regular speed, moreover this creates more of an impact on the audience. To add further interest, a visual effect of an translucent box will appear over the top of the action and this will show a graph which backs up the data of the stated fact.

6.
this will be shot outside of a supermarket that supplies plastic bags for the customers.
In this clip we see shopping bags being used in excess, we will film scenes outside of supermarkets demonstrating that people are still dependent on 5 and 10p, to accentuate this we will have the bags shown in an insert shot with big corporate names on such as Tesco and Sainsburys to demonstrate the problem with not only people buying these products but the big names that supply it.
This shot will last 3-5 seconds to fit into the pattern of the jump cut series.
To really demonstrate the problem of the plastic bags short usage we also want to try and film bags that have been abandoned and binned.
Once again a voiceover will accompany this clip letting everyone know facts about plastic pollution relevant to the picture shown on screen.

7.
For this scene, there will be a vox pop interview that will be taken place in the City Centre of Sheffield. This is because it will draw in more audiences due to this being a highly visited place. This scene will last at a minimum of 3 minutes. This vox pop interview will be edited with jump cuts so that it minimises time furthermore meaning that video flows consistently but to also keep the viewer from getting bored. The questions asked will be based around the audiences plastic usage. The presenter will then educate the interviewees about plastic pollution so that it brings awareness for the audience but this will also be done so that it creates a somber mood for the audience because the interviewees face responses.

8.
This scene captures the Veolia incinerator. This scene will only be brief because we are filming just the outside of the building. Therefore the scene will be a maximum of 5 seconds. using a birds-eye camera shot, a drone will be used which will encompass the perimeter off the building. This will allow different angles of the building to be shown. Jump-cuts may be necessary so that different angles can be used in a fast manner so that it covers the 5 second limit. There will be the narrator who talks over the top of this scene just so that the audience are aware of the following footage. The editing will have a colour grading over the top which will be done in a cooler toned setting so that it adds to the mood and tone of the video.

9.
In this scene we will be including insert shots from around the Veolia plant, this will be placed to introduce the interior of the plant.
The scene will last approx.. 5 seconds and will demonstrate the line of production to turn Sheffield's waste into heat.
Whilst the visuals in this image are shown dramatic and somber music will be played to emphasis the amount of plastic that is being collected at the plant.
The shots will vary of close up and wide establishing shots, by varying the shots it brings variety and keeps the audience engaged.
The editing process of this clip will mainly be stitching the various shots together and the addition of music to accompany the visuals

10.
this scene is one of the three main features of the short film / documentary, this will feature an interview with a veolia plant manager, this interview will last approximately 2-5 minutes long and include a bunch of open ended questions about plastic waste and what they do as a business such as 'what can people do to reduce plastic waste', 'what does veolia do as a company' ect... when editing the interview it will be cut down to get rid of any silence and pauses to help the interview flow well and to ensure that the audience don't get bored, this is one of the main and important scenes as it helps the audience to understand what people are doing and what to do in order to reduce plastic waste

11
this scene is going to be an establishing shot of the outside of 'the bare alternative' this is a local shop that encourages re using plastic packaging, the establishing shot makes the audience aware of where the next scenes are going to take place and also makes it relavant for the sheffield based audience as it is a local shop in sheffield (Abbeydale Road). this scene will be a timelapse lasting around 5-10 seconds, the time lapse will capture the outside of the shop, people going in and out and cars passing by.

12.
This scene will feature the shop ‘The Bare Alternative’ as introduced in the previous scene with the establishing shot in this interview we will explore the interior of the shop and film the containers with dried pasta and food as well as film footage of the actual weighing process and exchange of money to demonstrate the main features of the shop. By including footage of items sold at the shop this acts as a promotion aspect for the shop.
Alike the Veolia plant insert shots the Bare Alternative shops interior shots will range from close ups to establishing shots to create a vary of perspectives.
To introduce the shop in this in-depth structure it allows the audience to understand the link to the documentary and for them to see the purpose of the inclusion.

13
In this scene we will be interviewing the owner of The Bare Alternative,  due to the previous scenes introducing the shop it will be expected by the audience.
The questions that will be asked will be leading and will be surrounding the topic of sustainable living due to the shops purpose.
This scene will last  2-5 minutes and the purpose will be to give advice to the audience on how to change their lifestyles to fit the problem.
The scene will be shot from a close up or a medium shot, this to emphasis the emotions and facial expressions by the person interviewed, this allowing a better connection between the interviewee and the audience.

14
This next scene is a transition scene into the third section of the short film, we will show shots of the Sheffield city-scape to be the background for statistics and narration demonstrating more lifestyle changes.
By using the visuals from Sheffield and using recognisable landmarks combined with facts about plastic usage and shocking facts about the timescale we have before irreversible damage.
Scenes that will be shot will demonstrate smoke from building and factories and plastic around Sheffield this will compliment the facts also touching on this topic.
The scene will last from 15-20 seconds due to the length of the facts.
The shots will be establishing and close up dependant on the scene and subjects

Here, this scene will feature an actor drinking from a renewable cup. This will show audiences the little things in which they can do in order to make the world a safe and sustainable place. This scene will last for up to 5 seconds. There will be a close up shot which doesn't show much of the actors face but mainly highlights the cup. There will also be a tracking shot which tracks the movement of the cup as the actor uses it. This will make the audience aware of the focal point of the footage. The the voice over will introduce the audience into the next scene as it will being awareness to audiences that they should be more cautious into what products they use and how they can be more sustainable.

16
In this scene it will consist for around 10-20 seconds as it will show audiences items that they can purchase online which are more profiting and eco-friendly. Items which we can show are water bottles, metal straw, recycled paper, biodegradable waste bags, wooden toothbrushes. This scene will also bring awareness to online shops and helpful products that audiences could buy which are sustainable and useful. A voiceover will bring to light these websites and products. A screen recording will be used to show audiences the simplicity of finding these products and websites online through their own devices. The editing will include the scene to be sped up so the footage isnt long and boring for audiences. There will also be jump cuts to speed up this scene so that audiences arent bored.

17
this will be a short scene including clips of animals and nature and the negative effects that plastic has had on them. there will be slow, dramatic music played over the top of these clips to create a dramatic and serious effects, this will create an ending to the documentary which will make people think about their actions in the future and make them want to help reduce plastic waste by seeing the negative effects it has on animals and nature, this clip will be around 10-15 seconds long.
